About the Trio

Footprints is an already-accomplished high school jazz group featuring three dynamic players brought together by acclaimed jazz pianist and composer Joyce DiCamillo. Pianist Lucas Gazianis, bassist Sameer Shankarlingam, and drummer Toby Hirsch have played together for the past three years. The versatility of the musicians allows them to play everything from the blues to contemporary jazz to Stevie Wonder. The trio was featured as the opening act of the 2018 Greenwich Town Party, headlined by Eric Clapton, and as one of the leading youth artists at the Stamford First United Methodist Church's annual youth showcase. Members have played in bands and programs including the Birdland Big Band, Connecticut All-State Jazz Ensemble, Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra, jazz conservatory at SUNY Purchase, and the Stanford Jazz Workshop, working with jazz luminaries like Jon Faddis, Jimmy Heath, Eric Harland, Ted Nash, Todd Coolman, Obed Calvaire, Allison Miller, John Daversa, and many more.

Lucas Gazianis


Pianist Lucas Gazianis is a junior at Greenwich High School in CT and has been studying the instrument for ten years. He is a member of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Youth Orchestra, has played with the CT Western Region and All-State Jazz Ensembles three years in a row, was the first place winner of the Musical Club of Hartford’s inaugural high school jazz soloist competition, and was the first recipient of the Gerry Mulligan award for outstanding musicianship at the Darien Jazz Festival. He was selected as one of four pianists nationally to participate in Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Summer Jazz Academy, where he will study under Wynton Marsalis and members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra. He has had the opportunity to work under incredible artists including Ted Nash, John Daversa, Sherman Irby and Tatum Greenblatt. He has performed all around the New York metropolitan area, including at Jazz at Lincoln Center, NYU’s Skirball Theatre, Dizzy’s Club Coca Cola and the Greenwich Town Party. A student of Joyce DiCamillo’s, Lucas identifies Chick Corea, Oscar Peterson and Christian Sands as his primary influences.

Sameer Shankarlingam


Bassist Sameer Shankarlingam is a freshman at the SUNY Purchase Jazz Conservatory, headed by jazz legend Jon Faddis. He was selected for the Connecticut Western Region Jazz Ensemble and All-State Jazz Ensemble two years in a row and has played with the world-class Birdland Big Band. He studies under bass luminaries Todd Coolman and Doug Weiss.

Toby Hirsch


​​Drummer Toby Hirsch is a junior at Greenwich High School. He performs with the school’s Jazz Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble, and was selected for the Connecticut Western Region Band two years in a row. He attended the Stanford Jazz Institute during the summer of 2018, working with musicians including Eric Harland, Jimmy Heath, and Obed Calvaire.
